Recursive Interlocking Puzzles

This paper presents an iterative constructive method, exploring blocking mechanics to create new interlocking structures in 3D. The validity of interlocking is directly guaranteed without exhaustive testing, thereby enabling the creation of ever largest interlocking puzzles with over a thousand pieces. We also create homemade interlocking puzzles with Lego pieces.

We propose a framework, called Chopper, to print a large 3D object by decomposing it into smaller parts so that each part fits into the printing volume and satisfy a number of objectives including assemblability, having few components, unobtrusiveness of the seams, and structural soundness.

3D-Printing of Non-Assembly, Articulated Models

A method for converting 3D models into printable, functional, non-assembly models with internal friction is proposed. An intuitive workflow is demonstrated that takes an appropriately rigged 3D model, automatically fits novel 3D-printable and posable joints, and provides an interface for specifying rotational constraints.
