What are the criteria for a Birds of a Feather event?
Birds of a Feather events must be:
- Free of charge
- Related to computer graphics or interactive techniques
- Open to all SIGGRAPH 2011 attendees
- Non-commercial in nature (topics specific to one commercial product or company are not allowed).
All Birds of a Feather requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to be sure they conform to the spirit of a Birds of a Feather.
What meeting space is available?
SIGGRAPH 2011 official hotels and the Vancouver Convention Centre have meeting space available on a first-come, first-served basis. This list of venues is included on the Birds of a Feather Meeting Submission Form:

How do I request space for a Birds of a Feather event?
Submit a Birds of a Feather Submission through the online submission system no later than 21 July 2011. Make sure all the information on your submission is accurate and up to date. Clarifications may delay processing of your request. Do not contact the hotels or convention center prior to receiving confirmation from SIGGRAPH 2011 Conference Management. Venues cannot assign meeting space until approval is received from Conference Management. Important note: SIGGRAPH 2011 Keynote Speakers are scheduled for Monday, 8 August and Tuesday, 9 August 11 am – 12:30 pm. Please keep this in mind when scheduling your Birds of a Feather session.
What if I want to organize more than one Birds of a Feather session?
No problem. But you must fill out a separate online request form for each event.
Is there a time restriction for Birds of a Feather sessions?
Birds of a Feather sessions can be no longer than three hours including set up and teardown. Organizers of longer events, or those who submit multiple requests for the same day for more than three hours should consider becoming a co-located conference.
What are the costs for organizing a Birds of a Feather session?
Space in the convention center is complimentary, but limited. Some hotels may charge a rental fee for space. SIGGRAPH 2011 Conference Management will let you know if there is a fee prior to confirming your space request. Payment for any extra services (for example, food and beverage, audio/visual, etc.) is the responsibility of the Birds of a Feather organizer and is not covered by SIGGRAPH 2011.
Are audio/visual equpment and services complimentary in my Birds of a Feather meeting room?
No, all Birds of a Feather organizers are responsible for audio/visual costs. SIGGRAPH 2011 is offering a preset audio/visual package in two Vancouver Convention Centre meeting room. All other meeting rooms in the Vancouver Convention Centre rooms or hotels are the responsibility of the organizer.
What is included with the preset audio/visual package, and how do I request that Birds of a Feather room?
The preset audio/visual package includes:
1 LCD projector
1 lectern microphone
A mixer for house sound Direct box for PC audio hookup
Additional services and equipment may be ordered and paid for separately, if needed. The package price is $250.00 for two hours and $50.00 for one additional hour maximum. Pre-payment is required to request the preset Birds of a Feather room. Payment can be made here. Organizers will receive a confirmation code to be entered on the Birds of a Feather Submission Form to verify payment. Requests are confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Will I receive a confirmation?
If your request is approved, you will receive an email acknowledgement within two weeks. It will include all contact information for food and beverage and audio/visual needs. Birds of a Feather sessions located in hotels will also receive a confirmed room assignment at that time. For sessions held in the convention center, room assignments will not be confirmed until the week of June 28. Birds of a Feather organizers who request the preset audio/visual room in the convention center will be notified of availability with the approval email. All rooms in the convention center will be set theater style. Due to the number of sessions that need to be accommodated in the convention center, room sets cannot be changed.

17 June to be published in the Conference Locator.
18 July to be published on the kiosk in the Vancouver Convention Centre
21 July to be published on the SIGGRAPH 2011 web site.
No changes will be accepted after the deadlines have passed.
What are the ASCAP/BMI licensing fees mentioned on the Birds of a Feather Meeting Space Request Form?
ASCAP and BMI are membership associations of US composers, songwriters, and publishers of every kind of music. Whenever music (recorded or live) is played at an event, a license must be purchased from these associations. The license purchase is the responsibility of the organizer and not the venue where the event is to be held.
I am an exhibitor requesting meeting space. Should I use the Birds of a Feather Submission Page?
No. Exhibitors are required to complete the Exhibitor Meeting Space Request Form.
