On Friday, October 4 in Beverly Hills, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will host "This Amazing Medium," an animation master class and retrospective with Oscar®-winning animator Richard Williams.
The event, which is part of the Marc Davis Celebration of Animation, will showcase not only Williams' art, but the animator himself. An industry veteran of more than half a century, Williams has garnered upwards of 250 awards for his work. He is also the author of the oft-referenced manual for new animators, The Animator's Survival Kit.
During the event, Williams will share clips of his work along with stories and anecdotes from his expansive career.
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater on Wilshire Boulevard. Online tickets are sold out, but a standby line will form beginning at approximately 5:30 p.m.
For those who are unable to attend the event, an exhibit of Williams' work will be on display in the Academy Grand Lobby Gallery between October 4 and December 22, Tuesday through Friday.
