Overview
The Electronic Theater Director produces an entertaining and informative representation of the highest quality computer animation. The director recruits and supervises both a sub-committee and a jury, and interacts with contributors on formats, timing and many other editing requirements necessary for final production. The Director works closely with the Conference Chair, the Conference Event Director, volunteers, and contractors to produce an entertaining and informative representation of the state of the art in computer animation.

- practitioner within computer graphics/animation community
- participated in past SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater programs as a contributor, juror and/or subcommittee member
- have attended several SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater
- understands the role of the Electronic Theater within the SIGGRAPH conference and community
- able to build, inspire, and guide jury and other subcommittee members in the realization of the final program
Specific Responsibilities
The following list is a “high-level” view of the specific responsibilities associated with serving as an Electronic Theater Director. The list is organized under general categories of responsibility.
Strategic
- Participate in strategic planning for the SIGGRAPH Conference
- Create a strategic direction for the animation program including technical and artistic focus, emphasis areas, and new initiatives
Management
- Recruit and manage a subcommittee to assist in producing and administering the Electronic Theater program
- Recruit and supervise an Electronic Theater jury to review contributor submissions
- Provide information to accepted contributors regarding final formatting, timing, and requirements
- Work with subcommittee to create a presentation schedule and venue for accepted works
- Work with contractors and volunteers to edit the final master tapes for presentation in the SIGGRAPH Video Review series as well as at the conference
- Work with contractors to ensure on-site presentation facilities are appropriate
- Manage the on-site presentation of animations, both Electronic Theater (ET) and animation screening rooms
Financial
- Work with the Conference Chair and Event Director to prepare preliminary and final conference budgets for the Electronic Theater
- Manage the Electronic Theater budget
Publications
- Develop the Electronic Theater section of the Call for Participation
- Review copies of promotional materials and publications to ensure accurate Electronic Theater information
- Assist the Publications Chair in the collection of animation abstracts for both printed Visual Proceedings and CD-ROM
- Work closely with the SIGGRAPH Video Review (SVR) group to help create the SVR set for the conference
Communication
- Report regularly to the Conference Chair and Event Director on the status of the Computer Animation Festival program
- Facilitate and participate in timely communication with the subcommittee, reviewers, jury, and contributors to provide direction and solve problems
- Produce a final report by the wrapup meeting (October) describing the Electronic Theater process, changes from previous years, and lessons learned
Meetings
- Attend and participate in all conference committees meetings
