ACM Open: Navigating the Open Access Publication Model

ACM SIGGRAPH hosted a moderated webinar discussion entitled ACM Open: Navigating the Open Access Publication Model with ACM Director of Publications Scott Delman and ACM Senior Member Jonathan Aldrich. The webinar was an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of ACM OPEN. The speakers  discussed the open access model, publication tiering structures, the status of the transition to open access, the impact on ACM Digital Library, and the implications and benefits of Article Processing Charges (APC) for ACM SIGGRAPH authors and contributors. They also engaged in a Q&A session that addressed any additional concerns or questions from the audience.  ACM transitions to 100% Open Access in January 2026.

 

Pioneers Perspective on AI the Sequel – 15 May, 2024

On Wednesday, 15 May 2024, the SIGGRAPH Pioneers held the follow-up to our Zoom panel from February, called “A Pioneer’s Perspective on Generative AI – The Sequel.” AI expert panelists Dan B. Goldman, Rebecca Perry, Blake Schreurs and David Spoelstra returned to discuss topics at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Graphics. This time panelists confronted head-on some of their scariest scenarios for abuse of the technology, as well as presenting their views on the greatest potential benefits. SIGGRAPH 2024 Education Chair Dr. Bill Joel moderated the panel, and Ed Kramer hosted the event as Chair of the SIGGRAPH Pioneers.

 

 

2024 SIGGRAPH Pioneers “Schmooze-fest”

On March 13, 2024, the SIGGRAPH Pioneers held a “Schmooze-Fest” for members to get together on Zoom for an unscripted virtual chat. This is a recording of that evening’s event, which ended up having a focus on Artificial Intelligence issues. It also contains the announcement of the Pioneers Featured Speakers for the 2024 conference in Denver! Hosted by Ed Kramer, Chair of the SIGGRAPH Pioneers.

 

A Pioneers Perspective on Generative AI

On Wednesday, 07 February 2024, the SIGGRAPH Pioneers held a Zoom panel called “A Pioneer’s Perspective on Generative AI” to discuss issues at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Graphics. Speakers included Dan B. Goldman, Rebecca Perry, Blake Schreurs and David Spoelstra, each of whom has an extensive history in CGI and a current interest in AI technology. SIGGRAPH 2024 Education Chair Dr. Bill Joel moderated the panel, and Ed Kramer hosted the event as Chair of the SIGGRAPH Pioneers.
