Due to a last-minute scheduling conflict, DreamWorks Animation had to cancel Jennifer Yuh Nelson’s travel to Hong Kong to attend SIGGRAPH Asia 2011. She will be replaced by Phil Craven, Head of Story of the Kung Fu Panda 2 filmmaking team during the Featured Speaker session ‘The Influence of Chinese Culture in Designing Kung Fu Panda 2’. About Raymond Zibach
Raymond Zibach returns as Production Designer on “Kung Fu Panda 2” after working on the Academy Award-nominated “Kung Fu Panda.”  Zibach began his career in episodic television as a key background painter for several animated series.  Zibach segued into motion pictures as a background artist for the animated “Rover Dangerfield.” He then worked as a background artist on “Aladdin and the King of Thieves” and “Space Jam.”  Zibach first joined DreamWorks Animation as a background department supervisor for “Road to El Dorado”; he was later made art director.  He then served as production designer on “Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.”

About Phil Craven
Phil Craven grew up far from Hollywood, in a small town on the east coast of Georgia. After attending the Savannah College of Art and Design, he decided to follow his dream of working on animated movies, so he moved to California. He first joined DreamWorks Animation as part of the story team for Kung Fu Panda, and then was promoted to Head of Story for Kung Fu Panda 2. Phil has a passion for drawing, writing stories, traveling, and pandas!


The Influence of Chinese Culture in Designing Kung Fu Panda 2
Production Designer Raymond Zibach and Head of Story Phil Craven will talk about their trip to China to gather important research materials to help guide them in creating an accurate and beautiful depiction of the Chinese culture. They will talk about the regions and landmarks they observed on their trip and demonstrate how they influenced portions of the film.
